Top designers and fashion designers are heading to Nový Bor



Popular and well attended Glass festivities in Nový Bor will be held this year from 13 to 15 June 2014. For a whole three days, not just Náměstí Míru Square in Nový Bor will offer a number of events out of which everyone will surely be able to find the best one for them.
 
The second stop of the MEET CZECH DESIGN in Nový Bor symbolizes a strong discipline of Czech design - glass work. It offers a contrasting view of the mass production of glass and traditional manufacturing. Furthermore it offers professionals and also the general public a chance to meet the real internationally renowned aces of glass design, fashion and architecture. All this in the heart of tourist-friendly Nový Bor. 
We'll begin on Friday where in the morning the Czech Tourism design booth will open at the central city square and the first visitors will be able to rent a bike at the Bike Point to be the first ones to head to glass and tourist destinations around the city.
Those who want to see more can head out of town the first day of the festival. It'll be worth it. The workshops of Liběna Rochová and David Vávra are surely worth a visit. One of our most successful and in the world-respected fashion designers will talk about the use of glass in jewellery production at the glass factory AJETO, which visitors can find in nearby Lindava. The popular actor, writer and architect known as a great guide of the TV series Šumná města will acquaint those who will come to see him in Skalice by Česká Lípa with the use of glass in architecture.
Nový Bor has however also prepared a large selection of events, for example openings of attractive exhibits. The first one is dedicated to a flashback of twenty years of the glass factory AJETO. The second one is called Flowers of Slovakia and in the presence of the young and successful designer Peter Olah, it will introduce the work of Slovak and Czech design students inspired by Slovak legends.
On Friday until 2pm the glass factories in Nový Bor, Lindava and Kamenický Šenov will be open to the general public during the Open Door Day event.  A sales exposition at the glass factory Crystalex will also be open.
The main day of the glass festivities will traditionally be Saturday. Náměstí Míru Square will come back to life not only with booths with regional foods and typical crafts, creative glassmaking workshops with demonstrations of glass blowing, glass engraving or making stained glass, but also a rich cultural programme. There will also be fashion shows, and numerous music and dance productions. The climax could be the visit of design celebrities on the main stage and their commented production by one of the glass ovens coupled with autograph signing.
On Saturday, at the AJETO glass factory, Liběna Rochová will be replaced by Peter Olah from the previous day who will proudly show not only the sketch of the trophy for the winner of Tour de France, but also other trophies and other artefacts. It will be followed by a workshop of the star of Czech fashion design Blanka Matragi known worldwide not only for her unique designs for Arabian princesses.
At another place, directly in Nový Bor at the glass factory Šípek Team, at the same time, Bořek Šípek, the leading world known designer and glass design specialist will introduce himself to the professionals and all other visitors.
The first weekend day, you will also be able to experience the specially marked design trail. A special bus connection will be available; for more experienced visitors there will still be the possibility of bike rental.
Other events are prepared for the visitors of this year's Glass festivities for Sunday. Although the programme will slow down a bit to suit families with children and also lovers of natural beauty. A specialized bus tour to see the beauty of Novoborsko will be added to the ongoing events at the square and Sunday cultural programme. Thanks to this, it will be possible to visit such tourist destinations such as Skalní castle and hermitage Sloup in Bohemia, basalt rock formation Varhany or the rock chapel Svojkov. Not even this time will the offer miss tours of the glass factories in Nový Bor and Kamenický Šenov or the glass tavern in Lindava.

Nový Bor design trail
In Nový Bor, there are event packages prepared for the visitors of the festival MEET CZECH DESIGN which contain excursions to glass factories to see the mass production of glass and a contrasting view of the traditional hand production.
Attractions of Nový Bor, mainly the glass works, will be accessible by a tourist bus which will get everyone comfortably and quickly exactly where they want to go. Another option for exercise will be the possibility of bike rental.

Beauty of Novoborsko bus tour
The second part of MEET CZECH DESIGN ends in Nový Bor on Sunday 15 June. In addition to the traditional programme at Náměstí Míru Square, the selection of Sunday events will be extended by two buses which will take those interested on a tour fittingly called Beauty of Novoborsko.
The bus tour will offer exciting tourist destinations, e.g.:

  • Zákupy (a castle surrounded by an English park and terrace Baroque garden offers its visitors a tour of more than twenty luxuriously decorated and lavishly furnished rooms which in the past served as representative and living quarters of the Austrian Emperor and the last crowned Czech king Ferdinand the Good and his wife, the Empress Marie Anna).
  • Svojkov Rock Chapel (a chapel carved into a rock with a skilfully worked Neo Gothic portal from 1836. The last crowned Czech king Ferdinand V came here for prayer. Since the end of the 19th century, the chapel has been transformed into a Lourdes Grotto).
