MIXER Festival 2014
Shortly before the start of Meet Czech Design, a multi-genre festival MIXER will begin on Monday 28 April and portions of it will become a part of Meet Czech Design.

The festival aims at a broad spectrum of visitors, bringing lectures and workshops from the world of design, architecture, graphics, film, photography and music.

Organizers choose a different topic each year. This year's will be dominated by the topic of Extreme reality. This should reflect primarily in the accompanying programme, which will include extreme sports and a tattoo marathon. The festival visitors can look forward to a music production of various styles, introduction of designers from stylish companies and many more surprises. People preparing the MIXER festival are students of the Multimedia Communication Faculty at the Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín and they want to bring visitors the best from the world of art and design.

Randomly chosen from the rich programme are lectures of the director of the company Cream RE Martin Jarolím or Daniel Gonzáles and Tomáš Varga, Honza Látal, Žaloudek and Pažina with Míša Klakurková from the creative studio for advertising, graphic battle between Vladimír 518 and Vladimír Strejček, or a workshop under the supervision of the duo Puk - Puk or a discussion with Jan Zielinski about architecture, with Oldřiška Křížová, about the Zlín fashion brand and many more.
All these lectures and discussions will take place at various locations of the Baťa Institute. Festival activities are however planned also at other locations.  For example, in the scope of the Queens Graffiti Jam the art of the writers Luděkeim, NONECK, EICUL, NOMAD and DJLajfstajl will be shown on the front wall of the underpass in the lower park next to the Zlín bus station. People will be able to see extreme sports shows or curling in shopping carts at the car park in front of U4 and the already mentioned Tribo Tattoo Marathon by Veronika and Rout from the Prague Tribo Tattoo will take place at Cafe Blok 12.

The offer is really wide, so a detailed programme will help visitors with time and spatial orientation.

Exhibitions will take place in the cultural institute Alternativa:

Michal Richtr, "Design to prosperity"
The exhibition, based on individual cases of Czech companies, analyses the benefits of design on success in marketing and competitive economic competition. It's based on specific corporate indicators and economic results. Such a view has not had any parallels in the Czech context.

Leoš Lang, "Tire Design as a Work of Art"
This show will surely be visited not only by bicycle, motorcycle and car fans. It will offer an unusual presentation of industrial design of the company Continental and it will also introduce "pattern" tires. You will also be able to see modified shapes of individual figures independent of axis x, y, Dibont graphically simple black and silver outputs on aluminium foils and much more. The exhibition will also show that for the development of tire construction the breakthrough came in 1904 with the introduction of the flat tread tire made by Continental, which was a year later affixed with a pattern, which improved its handling characteristics, and how it continued throughout the various modifications to the present.
Exhibition opening hours: 30 April (Wednesday): 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm, Thursday: 10am-4pm,  Friday: 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm, Saturday: 10am to 4pm

Other exhibits will take place in city parks, on the platform of the Baťa Institute and in the lobby of the Regional Library.

One major attraction will be the "Multimedia image of conceptual design" exhibition at the Creative Hill College on the premises of the Film studios, which will be open from 10am to 6pm for the duration of the festival. It will be an attractive mix of conceptual design and modern multimedia technologies. The visitors will have a first-hand experience with several unusual interactive exhibits. The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Multimedia Creation Studio of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the VUT in Brno. Visitors of this exhibit will have access not only to the studio where the world renowned film magician Karel Zeman and his colleague Hermína Týrlová worked, but also premises which are otherwise generally inaccessible to public.

As part of the festival, there will also be a vernissage of the "Urban Interventions" exhibit, which obtained over 350 suggestions from Zlín residents.

An unconventional exhibition of the students of the Art Studios at the Faculty of Multimedia Communication at the Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín called "Victor's flat". It got such name because it's conceived as a real flat composed of design pieces of the students of art fields. The exhibition has its own story about Victor and his life in a design flat. The exposition is open to the public daily from 10am to 6pm at the premises of the Theatre in the 32nd building of the Svit area.

The Zlín Chateau will offer the visitors a "Zlín design hatchery" exhibit throughout the duration of the festival from 10am to 6pm. It's a time lapse exhibition of designers who were born or studied in Zlín, or who were inspired by Zlín in their production. The exhibit wants to demonstrate that all around the world there are successfully creating designers who got their professional training in Zlín. Exploring, in one spot, the work of successful professional designers who have seen accomplishments in their field will surely be quite an experience.

At the same place and at the same time a "Zlín – cradle of Czech design" exhibit will be open. It aims to zoom in on the beginnings of the 75-year development of education and designer experience in the city where a number of significant Czechoslovak designers were raised. The School of Art founded in 1939 would not have been founded without premeditated school system supported by the Baťa company. The first part of the exhibit is therefore dedicated to interwar educational efforts for the implementation of new progressive and unconventional methods in education and training of young students and Baťa employees.

Open door days and presentations of the largest design players in the region, namely Tescoma and mmCité will also be a part of the festival.

Families with children will be able to enjoy design creation at the family entertainment centre Galaxie.
